Into The Gloss: Caroline Trentini interview

From: Into The Gloss:

“I’m drinking Chimarrão. It’s a tea—it’s really popular in the south of Brazil, where I’m from, and in Argentina. My family gets together every afternoon for Chimarrão, not tea or coffee. This is the traditional cup, the straw, the powder—I bring bags and bags of it back to the states with me and freeze it! It tastes less like tea and more like an herb. So I’ll drink it all day long, you just keep putting more water in it. My friends here think it’s weird but I don’t care. I miss my family so much and this brings us together—sometimes I talk to my mom on Skype and I say, ‘Oh, I’m drinking a maté,’ and she’s like, ‘Me too!’ It makes me feel closer to them.

I cook a lot at home. I make salads, vegetables, soups, chicken, fish, all that. When I was little, every day I had to cook and clean the house, so I’ve always been really independent. I’m a big eater—I love love love food—but I’m not big on sweets, and I’m not big on a lot of stuff, and I’m really active. I keep myself moving all the time—I run, do Pilates, basketball. And since I’m cooking, I know what I’m putting in my food, so it’s much safer. But I eat everything in reasonable proportions.

I had really bad skin at the very beginning of my career, when I was fifteen, and that really bothered me. When you’re a girl, and especially because I’m a model, it sucks, you know? I was so self-conscious; I’d look in the mirror and cry. It was really painful. I took Accutane for a while and that helped. It’s a strong thing but it really changed my life. The only thing is, my skin became dry after taking that—it kind of dried everything in my body—so I make sure to moisturize very well. I like the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion, and I love Rodin Olio Lusso. I put it on after a very hot shower and it soaks in. Oh—and Egyptian Magic. It really has the right name because it is truly magic. It cures everything from sunburns to chapped lips, anything. When you have really beautiful skin, that’s all that matters, so I protect it from the sun, clean it very well. I really care about removing the makeup. I use Lancôme and [Bioderma] Crealine, which I get in Paris every time I go. I carry around two things: Laura Mercier concealer, which I really like, and this tinted MAC lip balm which I also use on my cheeks. I wear mascara when I go out—I like CoverGirl LashBlast Length. At this point I pretty much know what works for me. For example I know I need to extend my eyebrows a little bit with a pencil, because they’re a little short, so makeup artists will fill that out. And people know not to put much foundation on my face because I have freckles. I hated my freckles when I was little—my best friend and I did everything we could to get rid of them! We got teased so much. Now of course I like them.

I don’t do very much with my hair. I change shampoo and conditioner a lot—I think it’s good for your hair, and I like to mix up the scents. Right now I’m using Bumble and bumble Creme de Coco. And I got this Moroccan Oil from Orlando [Pita] last season that’s great just to smooth over your ends. I also love Bumble and bumble’s Surf Spray for that beach-y look. But my hair is in the best shape ever thanks to Julien [d’Ys]—he told me to take Viviscal. I used to have such thin hair, because of genetics but also because I used to do so many shows, and it wouldn’t grow. Viviscal is a miracle. But you have to stick with it—I’ve been taking it for five years, and my hair’s never been so long. Thank God—or, thank Julien—for Viviscal. I tell everybody about it. For color, I go to Christopher at Garren’s salon for highlights once in a while—he’s the best.

I love nail colors—I just do. I was working with Jin [Soon Choi] yesterday and I was like, ‘Jin, what do you have? What’s the new thing? What’s the new color?’ I’m a nightmare at the nail salon—I’m like, ‘Can I try this one, and that one, and this one…” I’m such a pain. I like taupes by OPI, and all the colors from Impala which I get in Brazil. At least once a week I get them done.”

Viktor & Rolf Video - Natasa Vojnovic

From style.com:

Viktor & Rolf saw red for Fall—and so did everyone who went to the Dutch duo’s show, where they were confronted with scarlet-faced models painted in homage, apparently, to Medieval knights. But the face paint stayed in the box for V&R’s new video, debuting exclusively on Style.com: The red here comes (a touch more judiciously we’d say) in the form of a blazing red coat and a swath of lipstick. Serbian model Natasa Vojnovic—who rose to fame in the early aughts, nabbed campaigns for Lanvin, Marc Jacobs, and Mulberry, and walked the Alexander Wang runway this season—does the Dietrich-ish honors in the Katie Shillingford-styled short, starting out in a perfectly-tailored tux and ending up in… well, not much at all, save a little Viktor & Rolf branding. Check it out, above.

Nimue Smit Italian Vogue video interview

Nimue Smit for Italian Vogue January 2009, ph: Steven Meisel, stylist: Marie Ameie Sauve:

Famous for
Long giraffe-like legs, witty and relaxed attitude, endless energy, intelligence & ambitions, and of course her many editorials and campaigns shot by some of the worlds best photographers.

Zoom
She was born in Bussum, a small town near Amsterdam, in the Netherlands.

When she was 15, she received a message over Hyves (a Dutch version of Facebook) from her mother agency Code Management. Judging from the pictures she had on her profile, the agency saw a great potential in Nimue. Not much later she had her first editorial in the Netherlands.

Her big break came in September 2008 when she exclusively walked the Prada spring 2009 show.

In Paris, she opened the Miu Miu show and she went on to shoot the Prada campaign with Steven Meisel, who also shot her for Italian Vogue.
In the same season she appeared in editorials in Dazed & Confused, Vogue UK and Numéro.

Style.com named her one of the top 10 new models to watch in March 2009, after her first full show season.

Once again Steven Meisel shot her for a campaign, this time it was the fall 2009 Alberta Ferretti campaign. In the same season she also became the face of See by Chloé.

Spring 2010 was another succesful season, with only-girl Giorgio Armani and Anna Sui campaigns to add to her career highlights.

Between all the shoots and shows, Nimue was still attending high school, following education on the highest level possible in the Netherlands.

Looking back now, she thinks her agencies have played a very important role in managing her career in such a way she could still attend school. She also thinks her mother agency helped her a lot with inspiration for photoshoots in the beginning.
They would ask the client what they had in mind and sent her some pictures or a movie with examples for that specific mood or personality.

She graduated in June 2010 and moved to New York not long after that.
At the moment she's modeling full time and she's now fronting the Mulberry and Givenchy fragrance campaigns.

Also she just shot various editorials for Harpers Bazaar, Vogue America, Another Magazine and more.

As for the future, she has always dreamt of becoming a vet and of traveling the world. The last part is a dream come true at the moment. She's trying to decide what she wants to study, and veterinary medicine is still a possibility.

Never leaves home without
Her bag, mobile phone, wallet, lipgloss and a hair brush.

Public style
Casual with a chic twist, mixing designer with vintage and less expensive brands.

Private style
Jeans and a tshirt or sweater. When no one 's watching big fleece sweaters, ugly but so comfy.

Shoes and bags
For shoes I'm a big fan of Acne and Givenchy and my favorite bags are by Céline, Mulberry and Proenza Schouler.

Hair
Natural!
" I'm too lazy to do anything with it."

Favorite designers
Alexander Wang, Isabel Marant, Proenza Schouler, Rag & Bone, Acne.

Favorite music
She loves listening to relaxed guitar songs like Simon & Garfunkel, The Beatles, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Train.

Book reading right now
Right now she's reading 'New York' by Edward Rutherfurd, which she got for her gratuation from friends of her parents.

Favorite magazine
She likes the different editions of Vogue, when in Holland she reads the Dutch Glamour and Elle.

Favourite cities
New York is an amazing city to live in. She's still discovering and trying out new things every day.
At one point in her life she'd love to live in Paris to learn to speak French (more).

Healthy habits
She likes to cook and never gets take-out or fast food.

First thing in the morning
Stretching and yawning to wake up.

Last thing before bed
Reading a book.

She loves
Walking through a city, swimming at sunset and puppies!

She hates
Stories with an open end, octopus (the food) and delays that leave you stuck in the airport for hours...

Agyness Deyn - Virgin London Marathon

From The Telegraph:

Mancunian model Agyness Deyn and Dolce & Gabbana's favourite, David Gandy, swapped the catwalk for the finishing line as they took part in the Virgin London Marathon yesterday.

Deyn's best friend, fashion designer Henry Holland, joined the top models to pound the streets - along with 36,000 other runners - to raise money for their chosen cause: Oxfam.

But who was first past the finishing line…? Holland, as a matter of fact, in an impressive three hours, 28 minutes and 59 seconds.

"NEVER AGAIN," the exhausted designer tweeted after the race.

An hour behind him was Gandy, who completed in 4 hours 35 minutes, quickly followed ten minutes later by Deyn, who couldn't wait to share her experience via Twitter: "Running the marathon is such a powerful experience which digs deep into the soul of your being. I highly recommend!"

Deyn recently took a trip to Tanzania to visit a project funded by Oxfam, and made a rare television appearance on Lorraine Live to promote the charity, saying: "I've grown up with Oxfam shops, but actually going there makes it so real, so moving, so meaningful to be in contact with the kids and the communities."
